Join us for the next installment of Public Works Experience’s No Water, No Beer speaker series featuring Beth O’Connell, former Chief Engineer for Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works and current Capital Delivery Optimization Program Manager.
Ms. O'Connell earned her degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from Johns Hopkins University. During her time as Anne Arundel County DPW Chief Engineer, she managed the County’s Capital Improvement Plan, overseeing the planning, design, and construction of General and Enterprise-funded projects with an annual capital budget of more than $700 million. Today, she serves as the County’s Capital Delivery Optimization Program Manager and technical advisor on a number of special projects.
In Nerd Out Loud: The Case for Water Only We Can Make, Ms. O'Connell will explore a challenge familiar to anyone in public works: water utilities are invisible by design—easy to overlook until something goes wrong.
Drawing on forty years of Anne Arundel County’s water system—and inspiration from craft brewers who have built enthusiastic audiences around everything from mash temperatures to water chemistry—Beth will make the case for a different way to tell the story of water infrastructure. One that falls somewhere between the billboard and the silence.
Expect an engaging conversation about water, infrastructure, engineering, chemistry, and how we can get people interested in the systems they depend on every single day.
